Wiegand Gallery - Membership

October 2006

Dear Friends,

Just as you and I depend on the arts to connect us to enduring values, so does the Wiegand Gallery depend on us for our consistent support.

I hope you will join me in making a generous annual gift to the Wiegand Gallery this fall season.  This is a big year for the Gallery – our 30th anniversary – and we have an especially ambitious calendar of exhibitions and arts education programs in store:

  • A Strong Vision, a wide-ranging tribute to Gallery founder Charles Strong, will run from March 21 – April 28, 2007.  Works by many luminaries of the Bay Area’s visual arts community [mention names if known] – all friends and colleagues of Charlie – will be on view.

  • We began the 2006–07 year with an exquisite exhibition of traditional Japanese woodblock prints, and, in January, we will open an exhibition of landscape abstractions by respected UC Davis art professors Gina Werfel and Hearne Pardee.

Charlie Strong founded the Gallery in 1977 at Notre Dame de Namur University with a two-fold mission:  to exhibit unusual or rarely seen work by the West’s most formative artists and to seek out artists whose work calls for greater recognition.  We recently expanded our mission to address issues of social justice and cross-cultural understanding.  Recent examples include Art from the Inside: Drawings by Chicano Prisoners and Martin Luther King: Countdown to Eternity by photojournalist Benedict Fernandez.

Your tax-deductible contribution will help us in two ways – by supporting the Gallery’s programs and by underwriting the publication of brochures and even full-scale catalogues for each exhibit.  Very few galleries of comparable size are able to uphold this commitment to publishing scholarly materials in conjunction with exhibitions.

Please take a moment to return the enclosed card with your gift.  As a Friend of the Wiegand Gallery, you will receive exclusive invitations to special events as well as regular announcements about our exhibitions.  I thank you for your support and hope to see you soon at an upcoming Gallery event.  Remember, the Gallery’s lasting future depends on you and me.

Warm regards,
